A common misconception is that a food waste disposer works like a standard bin or composting unit. However, the reality is far different.
An InSinkErator food waste disposer is fitted under most domestic sinks, connected to the wastewater outlet. InSinkErator food waste disposers are perfectly safe and don’t have blades or knives. Food waste is fed into the food waste disposer with cold water and the waste is ground down into small particles which flush easily through the wastewater system to wastewater treatment plants.
Instead of rotting in your home, food waste can be ground in your disposer and sent to wastewater treatment plants where it can yield valuable biogas and other vital soil nutrients.
Food waste disposers divert around 20 per cent of household waste away from landfill and have been shown to have a smaller carbon footprint than kerbside collection.
Safe & Basic noise operation
It has basic noise-level operation and is quieter than many other disposers on the market.
InSinkErator food waste disposers are perfectly safe and don’t have blades or knives. Instead, deep inside the disposer and far beneath the sink surface, there is a grinding plate with lugs that are used to ‘throw’ food waste against a stationary grind ring. This breaks food waste down to almost liquid form.
Fine grind food waste disposal
The Model 46AS offers a practical food waste disposal solution. It has a 1-stage grind system to break food waste down into fine particles that can be flushed through your plumbing to wastewater treatment. All of our M Series models can dispose of most food waste, including chicken bones. However, stringy and fibrous materials such as banana peel are only recommended for our Evolution models.

Easy Installation
InSinkErator food waste disposers are designed to be installed to an existing sink in no time at all. There’s a full instruction manual in the box and you can find video guides on the InSinkErator UK YouTube Channel.
To install InSinkErator food waste disposers you need:
- A sink with a 90mm hole (most sinks have these)
- Sufficient space in your cupboard for the product
- 13 amp socket within 600mm of install area
Box has been opened but item is unused. It has been tested and working perfectly. Bags for rings and air switch still sealed. The box has been dented and broken but we will insure the item is safe when delivering.
