How to replace a (second generation) wheel bearing with professional tools.
1. Remove the old bearing from the steering knuckle. Make sure the tool is correctly aligned. |
2. Carefully clean the surface in the steering knuckle and make sure that there are no heavy or deep scratches or any other damages in the housing bore. |
3. Check the ABS on the new bearing. Never use a screwdriver to check bearings that you suspect have a magnetic sensor ring. Instead use a magnetic card reader or a paper clip to test the bearing. |
4. Use professional tools to install the new second generation bearing, pressing on the outer ring side of the bearing. Apply antifretting paste to the bearing shaft. |
5. With the bearing at 90 degrees to the steering knuckle, tighten until firm resistance is felt. Caution: do not over tighten. |
6. After installation, check that the bearing is fully seated and rotates smoothly. |
7. Secure driveshaft retaining nut. Never use an air gun for this installation step. |
This wheel bearing kit from SKF is in an unused condition. It shows no signs of previous use or wear, and no signs of previous fitting. Ball bearings work perfectly. Please see images.
